We Know What It Means to Serve
USAA's founders — 25 Army officers who agreed to insure each other in 1922 - could not have imagined that their company would become a Fortune 200 financial services company with $96.1 billion in owned and managed assets and more than 5.5 million members.
Despite USAA's growth, the association remains true to our core values of service, loyalty, honesty, and integrity. These are the values of our nations military personnel — from USAA's founders to those serving today.
The Value of Membership
Because USAA is not a publicly traded company, we answer to you. You can rely on us to suggest products and services that meet your financial needs, not those that generate the most income for the company. In fact, some of our best advice costs nothing: Representatives in our Financial Advice Center will answer your questions, large or small, free of charge.
Financial Strength
Superior financial strength is another benefit of membership. In 2005, that strength allowed us to pay unprecedented catastrophe claims from our cash flow, without borrowing money or liquidating a single asset. We also returned nearly $6.5 billion to members — more than half of our $12 billion in revenues - in the form of distributions, dividends, claims payments, and other monetary benefits, including reduced prices and eliminated fees.
We Know What It Means to Serve
In 1922, when 25 Army officers met in San Antonio and decided to insure each other's vehicles, they could not have imagined that their tiny organization would one day serve 6 million members and become the only fully integrated financial services company in America.
We believe they would be pleased to know that USAA has remained true to their founding values of service, loyalty, honesty, and integrity.
The Value of Membership
USAA is not a publicly traded company, so we don't answer to stockholders — we answer to our members. They rely on us to suggest products and services that meet their financial needs. In fact, some of our best advice costs absolutely nothing. Advisors in our Financial Advice Center are here to answer questions, large and small, at no charge.
Are You Eligible
USAA membership is a privilege earned by those in uniform — and it's a privilege that can be handed down to their children. Those eligible to join the association include:
* Active duty officers and enlisted military personnel.
* Former spouses and adult children of USAA members.
* National Guard and Selected Reserve officers and enlisted personnel.
* Officer candidates in commissioning programs (Academy, ROTC, OCS/OTS).
